Your Body: Why We Can’t Rely on it

Uncategorized Apr 19, 2019

We (us humans) have made it almost impossible to lose weight because we can’t rely on our body to tell us when to start, when to stop, and what types of food best serve us.

It has become increasingly difficult to rely on our brilliant bodies for wisdom. The suggestion to eat only when we are hungry and stop when we are full is the most elegant suggestion, and if we could follow through with it, we would most definitely lose weight.

But so often, we struggle when trying to adhere to this.   We aren’t sure when we are hungry, we can’t identify when we are full, and even worse, our body doesn’t seem to know either. How is it that we can feel hungry all day long? How is it that we can be overweight and be hungrier than someone who has very little   fat on their body?   It doesn’t seem to make    sense.

And it doesn’t. Our body’s wisdom has been sabotaged by us. We didn’t mean to do it, but we did. It’s a bit heart-breaking when you think about it.  Our body is innocent. It’s doing what it was designed to do.  It’s storing fat and telling you to eat more so it can become more efficient at storing fat. That’s its job. That’s the reason we have evolved to this   point.

And yet, it’s also killing us.  Our hunger signals are off; they are telling us to eat way too much. This overeating causes overweight in record amounts.  We can’t trust that we are hungry, although we feel hungry a lot of the time. It has become normal to eat all day and in huge quantities at mealtime. The body has adjusted to accommodate this.

So, the question is, why have we become overeating machines? Why are we so overweight? What changed from when we could truly rely on our body’s wisdom to eat and stop and then go on with our day without another thought of food?

In my work as a life and weight coach, I ask and answer these questions from what I call the “causal” level.  Together with my clients we find the cause of the problem rather than just trying to solve the symptom. The symptom of overweight is overeating. We need to know more, though. We can’t just focus on the fact that we are overeating and try to control it.  We must understand why we overeat –   or   more importantly, why we want to overeat.

If we can get to the bottom of that reason, it will be     so much easier to stop doing it now and for the long term. If we don’t, we will be caught in a cycle of having to deprive ourselves of something we desperately and continuously want.  I know you can likely relate to this if you have ever gone on a diet only to go off it because you just couldn’t do it anymore.

Our action of overeating is driven by our brain, as all actions are.  Our brain literally tells us what to do and how to do it all day long. It’s affected by the thoughts you think both consciously and unconsciously, your neurotransmitters, and your hormones.

That is where we must start. We can’t solve the weight problem long-term if we don’t find out what    is truly causing it. If you’re anything like I was, you will be sceptical. You feel like you have followed all the advice out there and nothing has worked.  Well, there’s a reason for that. You haven’t addressed the cause of why you can’t rely on your body’s wisdom. And once you do, you will be able to control your weight down to the pound.

You are not a failure. There is nothing wrong with you. Your body is not your enemy.  It’s just doing its job.

I can teach you how to understand it and manage it so you can create a body that is thin, thriving, and functioning in the way it was designed.
